Insurance Institute Nepal (IIN) successfully conducted a one-day training program titled “Marine Cargo Surveying: Practical Skills for Field Surveyors” on April 23, 2026, at the IIN Training Hall.

The training was delivered by Capt. Mukesh Gautama and attended by 14 licensed surveyors.

The program was designed to address existing gaps in practical cargo surveying, policy interpretation, and claims handling within the marine insurance sector. It focused on building both technical knowledge and field-level skills aligned with international standards.

Participants were guided on the roles and responsibilities of professional cargo surveyors, application of ethical practices, and interpretation of marine insurance policies and warranties. The sessions also covered Incoterms 2020 and their relevance in risk and liability assessment.

Practical aspects such as identifying proximate causes of loss, conducting various types of surveys, and assessing project cargo risks were discussed in detail. The training also included important topics such as subrogation, recovery mechanisms, and loss minimization practices including Sue and Labour.

By the end of the program, participants enhanced their ability to conduct surveys, prepare professional reports, and support informed underwriting and claims decisions. The training contributed to strengthening technical capacity among surveyors and promoting consistent practices within the industry.
