Information to the contributors

Introduction

The Insurance Institute of Nepal (IIN), a pioneering institution for insurance education and training within Nepal’s insurance sector, hereby extends its profound gratitude to all contributors, stakeholders, and reviewers whose valuable efforts have culminated in the successful publication of Volume 2 of the Journal of Insurance Studies in South Asia (JISSA) in 2025. The Institute acknowledges with appreciation the scholarly contributions that have established this inaugural volume as a significant addition to insurance literature in the region.

The JISSA focused on current issues, innovations, developments, and solutions in the insurance sector. This journal will contribute to advancing insurance knowledge and practice in Nepal and the broader region from the Insurance Industry. It seeks to engage a meaningful insurance community among academics and practitioners within the insurance sector.

Topic of deliberation may include, but are not limited to:

  • Innovations in insurance products and services
  • Role of technology and digitalization in insurance
  • Microinsurance and inclusive insurance practices
  • Climate risk and insurance solutions for disaster resilience
  • Reinsurance strategies and market development

The reviewing process

All submitted articles undergo initial editorial review to ensure relevance to insurance practice and industry standards. Articles meeting our publication criteria are then evaluated by two independent experts through a double-blind peer review process. Based on these professional assessments, the editorial board determines whether to accept the article, request revisions, or decline publication.

Copyright

Authors certify that their submissions are original work free from copyright infringement and agree to indemnify the publisher against any related claims. Upon publication, articles become the legal copyright of the publisher unless alternative arrangements are agreed upon in writing.

Manuscript requirements

  • Articles should be between 5000 to 7000 words in length.
  • The title should be in an appropriate size.
  • A brief autobiographical note should be supplied, including:
    • Full name
    • Institute Name
    • E-mail address
    • Contact information
    • Brief professional biography.
  • Abstract: Authors must supply an abstract of around 200-300 words in total.
  • Minimum four keywords that encapsulate the principal topics of the paper
  • Headings must be short, clear, and reflective.
  • Notes or Endnotes should be used only if absolutely necessary and must be identified in the text by consecutive numbers, enclosed in brackets, and listed at the end of the article.
  • All Figures (charts, diagrams, and line drawings) and Plates (photographic images) should be submitted in both electronic forms. They should be of clear quality, in black and white, and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals.
  • Tables should be typed and included as part of the manuscript. They should not be submitted as graphic elements. Supply succinct and clear captions for all tables, figures, and plates. Ensure that any superscripts or asterisks are shown next to the relevant items and have corresponding explanations displayed as footnotes to the table, figure, or plate.
  • References to other publications must be in APA style and carefully checked for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • You should cite publications in the text: (Adams, 2006) using the first named author’s name or (Adams & Brown, 2006) citing both names of two, or (Adams et al., 2006), when there are three or more authors. At the end of the paper, a reference in alphabetical order should be supplied:
    • For books: Surname, Initials (year), Title of Book, Edition, Publisher.
    • For book chapters: Surname, Initials (year), Chapter title. In Editor’s Surname, Initials (Ed.), Title of Book (page number). Publisher.
    • For journal articles: Surname, Initials (year). Title of article. Journal Name, volume (issue), number, pages. DOI.
    • For published conference proceedings: Surname, Initials (year of publication). Title of paper. In Surname, Initials (Ed.), Title of published proceeding (page number). Publisher.
    • For unpublished conference proceedings: Surname, Initials (year). Title of paper. Conference Name, Location.
    • For working papers: Surname, Initials (year). Title of article (working paper number if available). Institution or organization, Place of organization, date.
    • For encyclopedia entries (with no author or editor): Title of Encyclopedia (year) “Title of entry”, volume, edition, Title of Encyclopedia, Publisher, Place of publication, pages.
    • For newspaper articles (authored): Surname, Initials (year, month, day). Article title. Newspaper Name.
    • For electronic sources: Include DOI when available, or URL with access date only if no DOI exists.

Final submission of the article

  • Once accepted for publication, the editor may request the final version as an attached file to an email. Authors should note that proofs are not supplied prior to publication. The author must ensure that it is complete, grammatically correct, and without spelling or typographical errors.
