Insurance Institute Nepal (IIN) conducted a one-day training program on “Global Best Practices in Cargo Claims Management for Containerized and Perishable Cargo” on April 24, 2026, in Naxal, Kathmandu.

The program was delivered by Capt. Mukesh Gautama and attended by 25 participants from non-life insurance companies.

The training was designed to enhance technical understanding of marine cargo insurance and claims management in line with international practices. It focused on practical aspects of handling containerized cargo, including pharmaceutical and perishable shipments.

Participants engaged in sessions covering policy interpretation, survey report analysis, proximate cause identification, and structured claims handling. The program also addressed key areas such as subrogation, recovery processes, documentation standards, and legal considerations in claims.

Special attention was given to emerging challenges such as increasing trade exposure and maritime cargo frauds. Case-based discussions helped participants understand fraud detection, investigation, and preventive measures within the insurance context.

The training provided practical insights that can be directly applied in the Nepalese market, supporting improved claims handling, better risk assessment, and stronger coordination among insurers, surveyors, and stakeholders.

The program concluded with a certificate distribution and a brief feedback session. Participants shared encouraging feedback, highlighting the practical relevance of the training and the usefulness of the concepts and tools in their day-to-day work.
