The Insurance Institute of Nepal successfully conducted a Training Program on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) for insurance professionals on 2082/10/16 (B.S.) at Hotel Siddhartha, Surkhet, Karnali Province.
The program was organized to strengthen awareness and practical understanding of AML/CFT obligations in the insurance sector. It focuses on helping professionals recognize risks, apply preventive controls, and ensure compliance in day-to-day insurance operations.
A total of 43 participants took part in the training, representing the Nepal Insurance Authority, along with professionals from Life, Non-Life, and Micro-Insurance companies. The mix of regulators and practitioners created a productive learning environment with open discussion and shared experience.
The sessions were led by Mr. Hreedyaswor Pandit, Deputy Director, Nepal Insurance Authority, who served as the resource person. He shared regulatory perspectives and practical guidance on how AML/CFT requirements can be effectively implemented within insurance business processes.

The program was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Neel Prasad Lamichhane, Head of Nepal Insurance Authority, Karnali Province, who highlighted the responsibility of insurance professionals in safeguarding the financial system from misuse.
Dr. Laxmi Kanta Paudel, CEO of the Insurance Institute of Nepal, welcomed the participants and thanked the Nepal Insurance Authority, Karnali Province, for its coordination and support.
The training covered key areas such as the AML/CFT framework, risk assessment in insurance operations, preventive and control measures, and the regulatory provisions applicable to the insurance sector. The sessions were practical and encouraged participants to relate the topics to real workplace situations.
The program concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony jointly conducted by Mr. Lamichhane, Mr. Pandit, and Dr. Paudel, followed by a feedback session.
Participants shared positive reflections, noting that the training was useful, relevant, and directly applicable to their roles. Many expressed confidence that learning will help improve compliance practices within their organizations.
Overall, the AML/CFT Training Program successfully supported the development of stronger compliance awareness and professional responsibility among insurance practitioners in Nepal.
